Sam and Fuzzy Prehistory

Thank you, everyone, for all the kind words and support after the big "life update" down here on Monday. It has been a rough time, but man, it means a lot to me to have such a kind and understanding audience.

If you are able and interested to help us out, and would like to get some fun stuff in the process, my Patreon or merch shop are great ways to do so. Alternately, because some of you have asked... if you have no need for sick merch or bonus stuff, but still want to help out, I've fixed up my paypal donation page and Ko-fi tip jar. If you can do any of those things, I promise it's all a huge help to me, my incredible wife and my bafflingly expensive but well meaning dog. And if you can't do any of 'em -- I know it's tough out there right now -- just know that I still really appreciate having you here.

I am still figuring out exactly what combination of time off and/or schedule changes I'm going to need to adopt for this next chunk of Jesi's treatment. But while I figure that out, I've put together this little double feature about the creation of Sam and Fuzzy to run for today and Friday's updates. A version of this originally appeared in the Sam and Fuzzy omnibus, although I've updated it a little bit to reflect this futuristic year of 2025. See you on Friday, team.

Life Update

Hi, friends. It's Sam here! The last few updates are all things I queued up a while ago, so this is my first "real time" newspost in a while. Which means it's my chance to let you know what has been going on over here.

Unfortunately, Jesi had to spend nearly a week in the hospital, due to some sudden complications stemming from their cancer treatment. They finally got to come home today, and we are hoping it is all resolved now! But it was all very stressful and scary.

And it didn't help that we were already a little frazzled because, the week prior to that, our dog Poppy had her own bout of health complications. The poor girl needed multiple vet visits. But she is doing much better now, so again, we are hoping that is all resolved.

But it has been a lot. Basically, for the last week, I have been spending most of my time at the hosptial... and when I haven't been there, it's because I've been ducking back home to make sure Poppy is continuing to stay healthy. Now that everyone is finally back home and stable, it is a huge relief! But boy oh boy am I fried. It has been a hell of a year so far.

Pretty much every day, I think about how grateful I am to live in a country with (mostly) free healthcare. But the government doesn't pay for Jesi's drugs, and they extremely don't pay for Poppy's vet visits. (No matter how cute she is!) So if you can spare any support for old Sam and co., via Patreon or merch or any other method, it would be much appreciated. I would also really appreciate your understanding if I need to start missing some comic updates, because I have pretty much exhausted my reserves of back up material at this point. This week, I'm going to give some thought about what changes I need to make to my update schedule going forward, at least til we get to the end of Jesi's treatment. I know no one wants me to run myself ragged.
